چکیده
Abstract This study uses the ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis and observationally constrained top-of-the-atmosphere radiative fluxes to infer net surface energy covering 1985–2018, which can be further adjusted match observed mean land heat uptake. Various diagnostics are applied provide error estimates of inferred on different spatial scales. For this purpose, as well unadjusted compared with other commonly used flux products. On a regional scale, oceanic budget North Atlantic between RAPID array at 26.5°N moorings located farther north (e.g., Greenland–Scotland Ridge) is evaluated. station comprehensive comparison buoy-based presented. Results indicate that global ocean averages agree uptake within 1 W m −2 , while satellite-derived model-based show large biases. Furthermore, closed 2.7 (−0.2) for period 2005–09 when (adjusted) employed. Indirect 2004–16 transport 1.09 PW (1.17 fluxes), agrees transports. exhibit bias −20.1 using reference, confirms expectations biases increase from local However, reference debatable, likely positively biased, suggesting station-scale more order −10 .

15 صفحه اولCombining satellite observations and reanalysis energy transports to estimate global net surface energy fluxes 1985–2012
Two methods are developed to estimate net surface energy fluxes based upon satellite-derived reconstructions of radiative fluxes at the top of atmosphere and the atmospheric energy tendencies and transports from the ERA-Interim reanalysis. Method 1 applies the mass-adjusted energy divergence from ERA-Interim, while method 2 estimates energy divergence based upon the net energy difference at the...
متن کاملFrom Local to Global Consistency* from Local to Global Consistency*
In reasoning tasks involving the maintenance of consistent databases (so called "constraint net works") it is customary to enforce local consistency conditions in order to simplify the construc tion of a globally coherent model of the data. In this paper we present a relationship between the sizes of the variables' domains and the level of local consistency sufficient to ensure global con si...
متن کاملObtaining surface energy fluxes from remotely sensed data
Land surface fluxes have been estimated from remotely sensed data at high pixel resolutions (approximately 60 m) with reasonable accuracy when compared to ground measurements (French et al., 2003; Kustas and Norman, 1999). The remote sensing input used to model land surface fluxes may consist of land surface temperature and a vegetation index. Remotely sensed land surface temperature estimates ...
متن کاملA joint atmosphere-ocean inversion for surface fluxes of carbon dioxide: 1. Methods and global-scale fluxes
[1] We have constructed an inverse estimate of surface fluxes of carbon dioxide using both atmospheric and oceanic observational constraints. This global estimate is spatially resolved into 11 land regions and 11 ocean regions, and is calculated as a temporal mean for the period 1992–1996. The method interprets in situ observations of carbon dioxide concentration in the ocean and atmosphere wit...
